Dandruff : Causes and Treatment

Winter is on its all-time high, it’s time to get those sweaters and jackets but with winter comes those annoying dry white flakes in your hair with slight itchiness as well which is popularly called “Dandruff”. Dandruff is one of the most common hair problem faced by millions of people across the globe. It is harmless but leads to embarrassment when those white flakes appear on your Beautiful Black dress or a Handsome Tuxedo in which you prepare yourself to steal the show.
Dandruff or flakes may appear on your scalp because of following:
  • Dry Scalp: Excessive dryness in the scalp can be a cause of dandruff as the essential oils help in the nourishment of scalp and keep it healthy.
  • Eczema: A skin disease which causes redness on the skin which leads to dry flakes to appear and itchiness.
  • Psoriasis: It is an adverse condition in which a patch of skin gets red and then covered by silver scales.
  • Seborrhoeic Dermatitis: It is an infection caused by the overgrowth of yeast on the skin which causes face, scalp and other body parts to become red and itchy.
  • Product Buildup: Excessive use of styling products like conditioners, gels, serums, pomades, hair wax or sprays can cause them to build-up on your scalp. This combine with dead skin cells to produce flakes and itchiness.
It is not a herculean task to eradicate or prevent it. For curing dandruff one can follow these below-mentioned remedies:
  • Shikakai: It is a natural ingredient used along with Awla and reetha to prevent and cure dandruff. It also enhances hair growth along with giving silky and good smelling hair.
  • Curd or Yogurt: Curd and lemon’s combination is ideal for removing dandruff. These are easily available and can be kept for 30 minutes after massaging gently on the scalp and rinse with a mild shampoo for effective results.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar as a dandruff remedy, as the acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for the yeast to grow. Mix a cup of apple cider vinegar with cup water in a spray bottle and massage on your scalp. Keep it for 15 minutes to an hour, and then wash your hair as usual.
  • Tea tree Oil: Tea tree oil has anti-fungal nutrients in it which fights with dandruff and can help in eradicating it completely. Use virgin tea tree oil with your regular mild shampoo to see results.
  • Alovera: Alovera just not only helps in the prevention of dandruff but also fights with the itchiness that dandruff brings with it. Simply applying a fresh aloe vera leaf’s juice helps in cooling of the scalp and nourishes hair as well.
You can follow above-mentioned remedies to prevent dandruff, but if it is recurring and you are facing this problem for a long time then you must consult a Dermatologist or a Skin Specialist in Surat  or anywhere in India as he/ she can guide you in a better way from finding the root cause of the problem and providing a suitable solution for the same.
